Job Summary: 


The Land Use I position is responsible for procuring zoning approvals, building permits and other miscellaneous permits from various jurisdictions across the country.  This position will review jurisdictional requirements as set forth in local codes and will develop and maintain cooperative relations with jurisdictional agencies to discuss processes, along with submittal requirements.  The Land Use I position will manage the permit review process to ensure standards are being met and the necessary approvals are being received within the appropriate turn-around times. 


Major goals and responsibilities:


  • Review jurisdictional zoning and permit requirements and standards as set forth in local codes and ordinances
  • Prepare applications and coordinate engineering/construction documents; review submittal packages and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance
  • Monitor the permit process to ensure turn-around times are being met and updates are clearly provided to both internal and external customers


Essential activities:


  • 25% – Research and review jurisdictional zoning and permit requirements as set forth in local codes; initiate contact with the appropriate jurisdiction officials to discuss processes and request necessary application forms
  • 25% – Prepare permit application packages, coordinate and review necessary engineering documents and construction drawings; deliver and pick up permits from various jurisdictions
  • 20% – Manage zoning and permitting applications; follow up and track all submitted applications through regular contact with the jurisdiction officials until all approvals are obtained
  • 15% – Participate in conference calls and/or in-person meetings with customers to provide jurisdiction updates and statuses of applications
  • 15% – Records management; maintain and update internal and customer databases with project and application statuses

  • Skills:
    • Ability to interpret codes across a variety of jurisdictions and review engineering documents and construction drawings to determine jurisdictional compliance
    • Problem solver with the capacity to deal with unique and complex situations
    • Ability to manage a wide range of duties in a timely and effective manner
    • Must be highly organized and possess the flexibility to adjust to changing workload volume and priorities
    • Knowledge of computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word and Excel), Adobe and GIS
    • Must have a valid driver’s license


  • Experience
    • Knowledge of land use principles and practices of permit application review preferred
    • Prior experience in the Telecommunications industry preferred
    • College degree or equivalent work experience
