Site Modifications

It Pays to Plan Ahead

Network upgrades are a fact of life for wireless operators. For example, upgrading from a 3g technology or WiMAX to LTE can involve multiple changes to the site: changing antennas on the tower, augmenting microwave backhaul or expanding the floorspace for the site. Some or all these changes could be limited by cell site lease language. Although operators have established processes for deploying equipment upgrades in their networks—selecting infrastructure vendors, testing for interoperability and project managing the upgrades across thousands of sites—the cell site lease can negatively affect the speed and cost of those upgrades.

Two examples of technology upgrades that change the equipment on the site, which could be limited by lease language.

The Md7 Site Modification program aids operators when they make changes to their network, whether it’s due to a technology change or a simple upgrade. Centralizing the lease servicing function with Md7 can improve upgrade completion time through a common, consistent national program. Md7 uses proven methods to improve lease consistency and minimize the lease modification costs.

Traditionally site acquisition companies (SACs) have handled lease changes as part of their equipment deployment activities. However, because their focus is on site construction, zoning and permitting, SACs are not purposed to consider either the immediate or long term financial effects.

Md7 will prevent lease requirements from throttling network expansions and overlays by delivering a comprehensive process for audit, analysis and landlord communication.

Switching technologies, whether it's modifying WiMAX, augmenting for HSPA+ or upgrading to LTE, can be challenging. Md7 can help you ensure your network upgrades aren't slowed by your cell site leases.
